EVERETT – The Spokane Chiefs are still trying to steer themselves away from their roughest skid of the Western Hockey League season. Reid Petryk’s second goal of the game, off a penalty shot with 2 minutes, 44 seconds left, gave the Everett Silvertips a 3-2 win over the Chiefs on Friday night at Comcast Arena. Petryk was awarded the penalty shot, Everett’s second of the game, when Reid Gow wrapped his stick around him from behind on a breakaway. The Chiefs lost for the sixth time in eight games. Spokane’s record, 22-7-1-0 four weeks ago, is 24-13-1-0 after its season-high third consecutive setback. Spokane had won three of its previous four games against the Silvertips (16-23-0-2) this year. Everett led 2-0 after Petryk’s goal 1:50 into the second period. Spokane’s Todd Fiddler assisted on Mike Aviani’s 18th goal of the season, at 6:09 of the second period, and on Blake Gal’s tying goal at 12:13 of the final period. Brenden Kichton also assisted on Gal’s score, a power-play goal set up by Stathis Soumelidis’ tripping penalty. Everett’s Austin Lotz stopped 33 of 35 shots.
