Paul, Griffin power Clips past Lakers

NBA: Chris Paul had 30 points and 13 assists, Blake Griffin added 24 points, and the Los Angeles Clippers led all the way in beating the Lakers 107-102 on Friday night at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Kobe Bryant scored 38 points and Dwight Howard had 21 points and 15 rebounds for the Lakers, who lost to the Clippers for the second time this season.

Bryant carried the Lakers in the fourth quarter when they closed to 99-97 on his 23-foot jumper with 1:29 left. But Paul scored the Clippers’ final eight points to seal the victory.

Bulls outduel Heat in Miami: Carlos Boozer scored 27 points and the Chicago Bulls became the third visiting team to win in Miami this season, beating the Heat 96-89.

Miami’s LeBron James scored 30 points, extending his streaks of scoring at least 20 points to 31 consecutive games this season.

Resurgent Daye leads Pistons past Hawks: Austin Daye had a season-best 20 points and Detroit earned its fourth consecutive victory with an 85-84 decision over Atlanta at Auburn Hills, Mich.

The Hawks, who trailed by as many as 19, had the ball in the final seconds, but Andre Drummond blocked Lou Williams’ jumper at the buzzer to preserve the win.

• Also in the NBA, Joe Johnson’s jumper with 0.7 seconds left in the second overtime lifted Brooklyn over Washington 115-113. … Russell Westbrook scored 27 points, Kevin Durant added 26 and Oklahoma City defeated Philadelphia 109-85, bouncing back from Wednesday’s home loss to Brooklyn…. Kyrie Irving scored 33 points, including a pull-up jumper from the foul line with one second left, to lift Cleveland over Charlotte 106-104 at Charlotte, N.C. … Kevin Garnett scored 18 points before he was ejected for a flagrant foul in the fourth quarter, and the Celtics snapped a four-game losing streak with a 94-75 victory over Indiana at Boston. … Wesley Matthews scored 21 points, J.J. Hickson added 19 points and 11 rebounds, and visiting Portland beat Memphis 86-84.

Stanford women drub Colorado

Women’s basketball: Chiney Ogwumike had 20 points and 11 rebounds, helping No. 4 Stanford get back on track with a 57-40 win over No. 20 Colorado in Boulder, Color.

It was the Cardinal’s first game since losing the top spot in the poll.

The Cardinal (12-1, 1-0 Pac-12) never trailed as it rebounded from a 61-35 loss to Connecticut that not only snapped its nation-leading home winning streak, but ended its six-week run at No. 1.

California outlasts Utah: Layshia Clerendon scored 18 points, Afure Jemerigbe had 13 and No. 7 California (11-1, 1-0) beat Utah (9-3, 0-1) 55-50 in a Pac-12 opener at Salt Lake City.

Shiffrin wins, leads slalom standings

Skiing: Teenager Mikaela Shiffrin is living up to her billing as American skiing’s next big star.

She earned her second World Cup title by winning the slalom at Zagreb, Croatia, by a massive 1.19-second margin to regain the lead in the discipline standings.

The 17-year-old Shiffrin had the fastest time in both runs to finish in a combined 2 minutes, 1.73 seconds. She won her first career World Cup event last month in Are, Sweden.

Frida Hansdotter of Sweden was second, and Erin Mielzynski of Canada was 1.76 behind in third.

Slovenia’s Tina Maze, who straddled a gate to end her run Friday, lost her lead in the slalom standings to Shiffrin but remained atop the overall World Cup standings.

Serbia advances to Hopman Cup final

Tennis: Novak Djokovic and Ana Ivanovic led Serbia into the Hopman Cup final, winning their singles matches over Germany at Perth, Australia.

Djokovic beat Tommy Haas 6-2, 6-0, while Ivanovic lost only 15 points in defeating Tatjana Malek 6-0, 6-1.

The Serbs will face Spain in the final today.

Murray into Brisbane semis; Azarenka pulls out: Top-ranked Victoria Azarenka withdrew from her Brisbane International semifinal against Serena Williams with an infected right big toe, citing concerns about aggravating it so close to the Australian Open.

Azarenka made the announcement about a half hour before she was to play the third-ranked Williams, who has an 11-1 record against Azarenka and is on a roll after winning titles at Wimbledon, the London Olympics and U.S. Open.

It came soon after Andy Murray, the Olympic men’s gold medalist and U.S. Open champion, had finished off his 6-4, 7-6 (3) win over Uzbekistan’s Denis Istomin in the quarterfinals.
