King book to be sold to benefit shelter
A signed copy of a rare Stephen King book is up for auction at a Maine bookstore, with proceeds going to a nearby homeless shelter’s emergency home heating fund.
The copy of “The Regulators,” written by horror writer and Maine native King under the pen name Richard Bachman, was donated by a customer of Scottie’s Bookhouse in Hancock.
Owner Michael Riggs said there are only 550 copies of the book in a special collector’s box.
Auction proceeds will go to the Emmaus Homeless Shelter’s emergency fuel fund in Ellsworth, Maine.
Emmaus director Sister Lucille MacDonald said it’s an “ingenious” way to help people struggling to buy heating oil.
The book is on display at Scottie’s and bids are being accepted by email, phone and in person until Jan. 31.
Ex-governor, wife doing reality show
A former Louisiana governor who served prison time for a corruption conviction is getting his own reality show on the A&E cable network.
In a Facebook message, the wife of 85-year-old Edwin Edwards said crews have already started filming “The Governor’s Wife.” The show will feature Edwards and his 34-year-old wife, Trina.
According to A&E, the series will follow Trina Edwards as she attempts to fit into the former governor’s upscale world and busy social life. She also tries to get along with stepdaughters almost twice her age and corral her teenage sons.
The series will include Edwin’s daughters, Anna, a 62-year-old, four-time divorcee, and Victoria, who A&E describes as “a hardened, 60-year-old ex-showgirl.”
Trina Edwards has two sons from a previous marriage, 15-year-old Logan and 13-year-old Trevor.
