Whitworth holds off Pacific on road
FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Taylor Farnsworth scored 29 points and Whitworth built a 17-point second-half lead before holding off Pacific 80-77 in Northwest Conference men’s basketball on Friday.
Wade Gebbers and Colton McCargar added 16 points apiece for the sixth-ranked Pirates (11-1, 3-0), who won their 11th consecutive game.
Farnsworth shot 12 of 17 from the floor and teamed with Dustin McConnell for 15 rebounds. Whitworth held a 34-27 edge on the boards.
Coby Proctor and Colin Wester scored 19 points apiece for the Boxers (6-4, 0-1), combining to shoot 13 of 20 from the field.
Whitworth led 60-43 with 12:29 left before Pacific fought back. The Boxers outscored the Pirates 21-10 during the final 5:15.
