Obituary: Finkel, M.D., Dr. Basya “Bella”

Dr. FINKEL, Basya, M.D.

Basya “Bella” Finkel passed away on December 31, 2012 surrounded by her immediate family one day short of her 88th birthday, due to cancer complications.

She was born on January 1, 1925 in Odessa County, Ukraine to Hannah and Matvey Finkel.

Bella is survived by her daughter, Irina Kryukov; son-in-law, Alex Kryukov, and grand- children Anna and Vlad Kryukov.

She lived through the Great Depression and survived persecution by the Nazis during World War II.

Bella dedicated 43 years of her life to medicine working at a children’s hospital, specializing in radiology and orthopedics.

On April 20, 1993 she moved with her family to the United States; first to New York City and a year later to Spokane, Washington.

In 1999, at the age of 73 she successfully passed a citizenship exam and became a United States citizen.

Bella’s biggest love was her family.

She took great pride in all of them.

Bella will always be loved and remembered by her family.
