Obituary: Johns, Doris C. “Dodie” “Mops”

Age 87

JOHNS, Doris C. “Dodie” “Mops” (Age 87) Passed away peacefully on December 28, 2012 at Hospice House.

Dodie was born February 14, 1925 to Chester and Nettie Jackson in Plains, MT.

She grew up in Paradise, MT until moving to Spokane in 1943 to attend Kelsey-Baird Business College.

She lived in a boarding house with gals and spent many evenings dancing at the local USO Club.

Dodie worked for United Pacific/Reliance Insurance Co. for 34 years as an underwriter.

She met and married the “love of her life” Hal in 1948 and they just celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on September 15th.

After retiring from the insurance company, she played guitar in a couple of dance bands for another 30+ years.

“Do-Re-Ke’s” and “Dodie and the Sunshine Boys”.

They played at senior centers and retirement homes and VFWs.

Dodie and Hal and their boys spent many wonderful years working and playing at their Loon Lake, WA cabin since 1957.

For their 25th wedding anniversary they took their first trip to Hawaii with their good friends Ken and Dot.

That turned into an annual February vacation for 30+ years.

Dodie is survived by her sons Steve and Gary (Anna); her grandchildren Brian (Kelly), Mark Scott, Chad (Gracie), Kelli (John); her great-grandchildren Noah and Ashley.

She was preceded in death by her husband Hal, her brother Dale and her daughter-in-law Judy.

A celebration of her life and Hal’s life will be held on January 26, 2013 at the Cathay Inn, 3714 N. Division, Spokane, WA from 1 to 3 PM.
