Spokane tries phone texting for snow plow plans

The city of Spokane announced today that is going to try out a phone texting service to keep people updated on snow plowing plans and schedules. The new service is currently being offered as a pilot project to see how much interest there is in having plow information sent by text message and how well the program works. To sign up, send a text message to (509) 385-5775 and use the word “hills” if you live in on an arterial or in a hilly residential area; “Brownes” if you live in Browne’s Addition; and “parking” if you live in a neighborhood with flat terrain. The hilly residential areas are designated with numbers of 20 and above on the city’s official snow plow map. A text message will be returned with plowing information. In addition, the city is using Twitter, Facebook, Cable Channel 5 and its own web site to provide plow information. As part of a citywide effort to improve customer service and communications with citizens, the City is working on an update to its website, enhance use of social media tools, and increase the number of services will be offered online. For more information, go to the city’s web site.
