Westbrook, Durant key Thunder win

NBA: Russell Westbrook scored 23 points, Kevin Durant had 22 and the Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Raptors 104-92 in Toronto on Sunday.

Serge Ibaka had 19 points and eight rebounds and Kevin Martin scored 16 as the Thunder enjoyed a winning start to a stretch that sees them play 11 of 13 on the road.

Nick Collison had 10 points and eight rebounds to help the Thunder win for the fifth time in eight games since their season-long 12-game winning streak.

Alan Anderson scored 17 of his career-high 27 points in the second quarter and Amir Johnson had 19 for the Raptors, who lost their second straight after winning eight of nine.

• Nuggets deny Lakers: Ty Lawson had 21 points and 10 assists, Danilo Gallinari scored 20 points and hit a big 3-pointer with 13.8 seconds left, and the Denver Nuggets beat the struggling Lakers 112-105 in Los Angeles for their fifth win in seven games.

Kobe Bryant scored 29 points and Dwight Howard had 14 points and a career high-tying 26 rebounds for the Lakers.

• Heat rebound over Wizards: LeBron James scored 24 points and the Heat had a rebounding edge for a change to beat the woeful Washington Wizards 99-71 in Miami.

The Heat, beaten on the boards by a total of 38 rebounds over the previous three games, this time enjoyed a 50-39 advantage. Udonis Haslem led them with 12 rebounds, and Chris Bosh had nine.

• Bobcats use OT to find rare win: Kemba Walker had 20 points and seven assists, Ben Gordon scored 18 points and the Charlotte Bobcats beat the Detroit Pistons 108-101 in overtime in Auburn Hills, Mich., for just their second win in 21 games.

No. 12 Lady Vols rally past No. 10 Georgia

Women’s basketball: Bashaara Graves scored a career-high 23 points and No. 12 Tennessee (11-3, 2-0 SEC) rallied in the second half for a 79-66 win over No. 10 Georgia (13-2, 1-1) in Knoxville, Tenn.

After trailing 42-40 at halftime, Tennessee scored the first nine points of the second half and stayed in front the rest of the way.

Meighan Simmons added 16 points for Tennessee, while Jasmine Jones scored a career-high 12 points to go along with seven rebounds. Taber Spani had 11 points and seven rebounds.

• Pope helps Baylor rout Oklahoma State: Brooklyn Pope scored 18 points and Brittney Griner added 14 points and 10 rebounds as No. 2 Baylor (12-1, 2-0 Big 12) earned an 83-49 win over No. 13 Oklahoma State (11-2, 0-2) in Waco, Texas.

Odyssey Sims had 13 points and Destiny Williams 11 points for the Lady Bears, who extended the longest active home-winning streak in the country to 47 games.

• No. 7 Cal tops No. 20 Colorado: Brittany Boyd scored 15 points, and No. 7 California (12-1, 2-0 Pac-12) got some timely rebounding to withstand a late surge by No. 20 Colorado (11-2, 0-2) for a 53-49 victory in Boulder, Colo. Afure Jemerigbe and Reshanda Gray added 10 points apiece for Cal.

• No. 16 Bruins get Pac-12 win over Beavers: Alyssia Brewer scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead No. 16 UCLA (11-2, 2-0 Pac-12) over Oregon State 68-64 in Corvallis, Ore. The Beavers (6-8, 0-2) led 34-29 at halftime.

• Maryland ends Florida State’s streak: Alyssa Thomas had 20 points and 15 rebounds to help No. 8 Maryland (11-3, 2-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) beat No. 19 Florida State 71-64, ending the Seminoles’ (12-2, 2-1) five-game winning streak.

Tianna Hawkins added 17 points while Tierney Pfirman had 12 points for the Terrapins.

Young, Jayhawks hold off Temple

Men’s basketball: Kevin Young had 16 points, hitting four critical free throws down the stretch, and sixth-ranked Kansas (12-1) fended off pesky Temple 69-62 in Lawrence, Kan., for the Jayhawks’ 11th straight win.

Travis Releford added 14 points on 5 for 5 shooting, none of his baskets bigger than a 3-pointer from the wing with 34.9 seconds left. With the shot-clock winding down, Releford’s shot gave Kansas a 65-58 lead, essentially turning away the Owls (10-3).

• Burke, Michigan handle Iowa to stay perfect: Trey Burke had 19 points and a career-high 12 assists, leading No. 2 Michigan (15-0, 2-0 Big Ten) to a 95-67 win over Iowa (11-4, 0-2) in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Glenn Robinson III added 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Wolverines, who had only 17 points with 7 minutes remaining in the first half before overwhelming the Hawkeyes with a flurry of dunks, 3-pointers and other highlights.

• Syracuse overcomes slow start: Brandon Triche had 20 points and James Southerland scored 12 of his 17 in the second half to help No. 7 Syracuse (14-1, 2-0 Big East) overcome a slow start and win its Big East road opener 55-44 over South Florida (9-4, 0-1) in Tampa, Fla.

The Bulls trimmed what had been an 11-point deficit to 47-42 with six minutes remaining, however the Bulls were held to one basket the rest of the way.

• Virginia beats UNC in ACC opener: Joe Harris scored 19 points and sparked a 15-2 second-half run and Virginia rallied to beat North Carolina 61-52 in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both schools in Charlottesville, Va.

Harris’ 3-pointer sparked the game-changing burst for Virginia (11-3, 1-0), which had just gone behind 34-26 after North Carolina (10-4, 0-1) opened the half on a 9-2 run.

Hirscher takes overall lead with slalom win

Winter sports: Defending champion Marcel Hirscher reclaimed the overall World Cup lead by winning a slalom in Zagreb, Croatia, for his third victory of the season.

The Austrian trailed Jens Byggmark by 0.01 seconds after the first leg but took advantage of the Swede’s mistake in the second to win in a combined time of 1 minute, 56.17 seconds.

Andre Myhrer of Sweden was 0.57 back in second, and Hirscher’s Austrian teammate Mario Matt came in 1.09 behind to take third.

Hirscher overtook Aksel Lund Svindal of Norway atop the overall standings. Hirscher has 740 points, followed by Svindal with 689 and American Ted Ligety, who skied out in the first run, with 552 points.

• Germany’s Moeller wins World Cup luge event: David Moeller of Germany won the men’s singles race at a luge World Cup meet in Koenigssee, Germany, earning his first victory of the season.

Moeller recorded the fastest time in the first run and did enough in the second to edge Russia’s Albert Demchenko by 0.064 seconds with an aggregate time of 1 minute, 39.526 seconds.
