Obituary: Ellingsworth, Albert Hugh “Red”
Age 85
He was born in Salmon, Idaho on April 12, 1928 to James Ernest and Stella (Jaskowiac) Ellingsworth.
He spent most of his childhood around Carey, ID and at the age of 14 moved with his family to Elmer City, WA where he worked herding sheep and cattle when not in school.
In November 1950, Red was drafted and served with the 160th Infantry Regiment, seeing action in Korea as part of a mortar squad in the area of Heartbreak Ridge and the Punchbowl.
For his service he received the Army of Occupation Medal Japan, the Korean Service Medal with Bronze Star and the Combat Infantry Badge.
On July 30, 1960 he married Anita Darlene Knapp and they resided in Spokane while they raised their family.
For the last 26 years they lived at “The Nest,” their hideaway in the foothills of Mt.
Spokane.
Red is survived by his loving wife of 52 years; their children: Jeral and Debbie Ellingsworth of Newberg, OR, Keral and Scott Rehn of Everett, WA, and Meral Ellingsworth of Spokane; their grandchildren: Carmen, Ashley, Tristan, Melody, Alex, Meighan, Michelle and Brian; and their great-grandchildren: Finnegan, Stella, Margot and Lucia.
