Obituary: Yates, Lovina (Marsh)
Age 93
“Lee” was born September 9, 1919, in Wallace, Idaho; her parents were Lovina Wilson Marsh and Harry Webb Marsh.
Both Parents were descendants of early pioneers of both Washington and Idaho.
She graduated from Wallace High School and the University of Idaho.
She was a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority.
After graduation she taught school in Challis, Idaho.
She married James S. Yates of Parma, Idaho in 1942, and they moved to Seattle where Mr. Yates was employed by the Boeing Company.
“Lee” as she was known to her friends and family, worked for the Civilian War commission and the USO Mobile Service during World War II.
She was a board member of the Women’s University Club in Seattle and active in many charitable organizations.
She was president of the Seattle Alumni Chapter of Gamma Phi Beta.
Following retirement, “Lee” and Jim built an addition to the family home on Mica Bay and moved to Coeur d’Alene, where they enjoyed 30 years.
“Lee” was an accomplished master gardener and floral designer.
She enjoyed participating in an art study group; the Boot Scooting Grannies dance group and the 3-Cs.
Everybody who met “Lee” remembers her love of fun and companionship, and especially her beautiful collection of stylish hats.
For many years “Lee” was a member of the St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Coeur d’Alene, and she provided, over the years, many beautiful flower arrangements.
After Jim passed away in 2009, she moved to Fairwinds Community in Coeur d’Alene, currently known as North Star Community.
A celebration of “Lee’s” life will be held at a later date, in the spring.
The family has asked that in Lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to Circle of Life Hospice at Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d’Alene, or to the North Star Community on Seltice Way for their piano fund.
