Education Notebook: Prep’s Lombardo wins Ignatian Service Award

Abigail Lombardo, a senior at Gonzaga Prep, was recognized for her community spirit when she was awarded the Ignatian Service Award, along with a letter in Community Service. Lombardo has completed more than 200 hours of community service as a student at G-Prep.

She has devoted two summers volunteering at St. Anne’s Care Center; she was a volunteer counselor at the St. Augustine/Sacred Heart Vacation Bible School; she has volunteered for three years for Tom’s Turkey Drive; and has been a three-year member of Gonzaga Prep’s food drive committee. Lombardo has also coached cheerleading for two years at All Saints and Cataldo Catholic schools; she’s been a varsity cheerleader; she’s been a member of Key Club, Washington Drug Free Youth and the National Honor Society.

Neil Kempen, G-Prep’s community service program coordinator, said in a news release, “Abi has made excellent use of her time and energy. She works well with children and has a place in her heart for those who struggle. Abi has a bright future and will do great things in her life.”

Lombardo is the daughter of Michael and Christina Lombardo of Spokane.

Dad-daughter ball at LC

Dads can spend a special night out with their young daughters at the Lewis and Clark High School Dad-Daughter Snowflake Ball, on Jan. 26.

From 6 to 9 p.m., girls in preschool through sixth grade can dance the night away in the LC gym and enjoy punch and cupcakes. Photos will also be taken by Leo’s to mark the special occasion.

Dads, grandpas, uncles or friends are welcome to treat their special girls to a night of dancing and family fun. Cost to attend the ball is $25 per family in advance and $30 at the door. Registration is requested by Jan. 18.
