Obituary: Steele, Joseph R.

Age 73

STEELE, Joseph R. (Age 73) Our dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend departed this life at the Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene on January 9, 2013.

He was born May 10, 1939 in Coeur d’Alene to Homer and Bernice Steele.

He resided all his life in the Northwest.

As a 50 year IBEW Local #73 electrician, he travelled much of the the world.

Joe married Mary Knutson on June 8, 1957 shortly after their graduation from Rathdrum High School.

He was a vintage vehicle enthusiast who enjoyed building and racing cars and motorcycles.

As an adventurist, he enjoyed flying airplanes, hunting, fishing, camping, dangling from a hang glider, and taking long motorcycle road trips with family and his best friend Newt.

Joe never met a stranger and was always quick with a smile and a joke.

He was always up to something: talking, helping, playing, travelling, and advising.

People close to him sought him out for help and support because he used his heart and experience no matter what soul or object he was mending.

As “Joe Fix-it”, anything that was broken got repaired or rebuilt.

Joe is survived by: his wife, Mary; children: Linda L. (& Chuck) Wiegert, Sandy Kay, Larry Steele, Mike (and Debbie) Steele and Trish Steele; sisters: Margaret (and John) Jirsa and Penny Swanland; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
