Eagles win, take control in GNL

The West Valley girls won the battle of unbeaten Great Northern League basketball teams on Saturday.

Erin Higbie scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and Jenae Martin added 13 points as the Eagles took over first place in the GNL with a 52-46 win at East Valley.

West Valley took a seven-point lead into the fourth and then held on late to preserve its fourth consecutive victory.

Erin Wallman had 12 points and nine rebounds for the Knights.

The teams will meet again at WV on Jan. 31.

Inland Empire 4A

Moscow 55, Sandpoint 45: Joelle Stephens scored 16 points and Chloe Quinnett added 13 as the Bears (5-8, 2-0) gained an early advantage and held on to beat the host Bulldogs (9-7, 2-1). Hailey Olin hit three 3-pointers and finished with 16 points for Sandpoint.

Great Northern

Colville 53, Cheney 35: The Indians’ full-court press in the first quarter helped them build an early lead en route to a win over the visiting Blackhawks (3-8, 1-4). Sadie Learn scored 13 points to lead Colville (6-6, 2-2). Cheney was led by Coreen Labish, who scored 14 points.

Northeast 2B

Reardan 57, Springdale 37: Kelsey Moos scored 14 points and pulled down 15 rebounds to guide the Indians (14-1, 9-0) past the visiting Chargers (7-8, 3-6). Chantel Heath added 10 points and seven assists for Reardan, which led 21-7 after the first quarter.

Northwest Christian 59, Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 34: Hannah Dietzen scored 20 points as the Crusaders (12-2, 7-2) gained control in the second quarter and eased past the Broncos (4-10, 2-7) at Ritzville. Courtney Gray added 12 points for Northwest Christian, which outscored Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 18-4 in the second quarter. The Broncos were led by Dalyn Killian’s 11 points.

Colfax 66, Davenport 25: The Bulldogs (13-2, 9-1) forced 35 turnovers, many of which led to easy scores, and Colfax routed the visiting Gorillas (4-11, 2-7). Taylor Larsen scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds and Amelie Bruya added 10 points for the Bulldogs. Colfax outscored Davenport 23-8 in the second quarter and led 41-14 at the half.

Northeast 1B North

Columbia 55, Curlew 20: Elizabeth Larrew scored 23 points and the Lions (9-6, 6-2) pulled away in the second and third quarters and routed the host Cougars (4-8, 2-5). Kaitlin Jones scored 12 points and Shahnoa Williams added 10 for Columbia.

Cusick 56, Inchelium 36: Caytlin Nenema scored 19 points and pulled down 20 rebounds – 11 coming on the offensive end – as the Panthers (15-0, 8-0) dominated the first half and cruised past the visiting Hornets (4-6, 3-5). Nalene Andrews added 13 points and nine rebounds for Cusick, which led 33-11 at halftime.

Selkirk 48, Northport 29: Katie Couch had 21 points, 15 rebounds and three steals as the Rangers (5-7, 3-5) clamped down defensively and routed the visiting Mustangs (2-10, 0-8). Jessika Reiber added 13 points for Selkirk.

Northeast 1B South

Wellpinit 64, St. Michael’s 48: The Redskins (7-8, 3-2) forced 12 first-quarter turnovers and gained a 14-point lead en route to a win over the host Warriors (1-12, 0-5). Dani Flett scored 14 of her team-high 15 points in the first half for Wellpinit. St. Michael’s was led by Becky Raynor’s 19 points.

Wilbur-Creston 54, Odessa-Harrington 24: Kaelee Reed scored 13 points and the Wildcats (11-3, 4-1) took control early and raced past the host Titans (4-11, 2-3). Chelsea Fisher tallied a team-high seven points for Odessa-Harrington.

Southeast 1B

Garfield-Palouse 38, Liberty Christian 24: Taylor Redman scored 20 points and Sammi Johnson grabbed 11 rebounds as the Vikings (3-11, 3-7) clipped the Patriots at Richland. Garfield-Palouse jumped ahead early and led 16-5 after the first quarter.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 64, Valley Christian 33: Karlee Martin scored 22 points and dished out five assists as the Warriors (10-5, 5-0) routed the host Panthers (1-11, 1-4). Lindy Riggan led Valley Christian with 22 points.

Nonleague

Republic 66, Kettle Falls 33: Brianna Brown had 21 points, nine rebounds and six steals as the Tigers (10-3) claimed control from the get-go in a win over the visiting Bulldogs (4-9). Kacie Lane added 11 points, 10 rebounds and four steals for Republic.

Coeur d’Alene Charter 49, Bonners Ferry 32: Lexi Turkenburg scored 24 points and Jacklyn Jensen added eight points and 14 rebounds as the Panthers (11-2) beat the host Badgers (10-4).
