Keep fighting abortion

Shortly after the Roe v. Wade decision in 1973 legalizing abortion, I watched an abortion debate on “The Advocates,” a PBS program. The pro-life debater showed pictures of babies being killed by abortion. As a lad of 12, I literally felt sick to my stomach. My oldest brother, Bob, who was at my side, said “That’s what happens in abortion. Just rips ’em up.”

Today, nearly 40 years later, the images still haunt me. I am just as convinced now as I was then that abortion destroys a human life.

And I wonder to this day, “Why are women still having abortions?” With many women having them who were born after abortion was legalized, these in particular should be especially grateful to their mothers for having given them life.

I have participated in right-to-life marches every year since 1980. Thus, I encourage participation in Coeur d’Alene, Jan. 19 at Skate Plaza at 10 a.m., and in Spokane, Jan. 20 at 2 p.m. at Fourth Memorial Church.

And when, in another 10 years, Roe v. Wade reaches the 50-year mark, it certainly will be no golden anniversary; it will be just as black as ever.
