Obituary: Altmaier, Dorothy Irene

ALTMAIER, Dorothy Dorothy Irene Altmaier, passed away on January 8, 2013.

Loved mother, grand- mother, and great-grand- mother was born September 21, 1918 in Boise Idaho, the oldest of 4 daughters.

After graduating Business College, she met Orville Altmaier, her husband for over 66 years.

They were married in August 1940.

The family moved to Spokane Valley and there they raised their 5 children and lived for over 45 years.

She was a wife, mother and homemaker.

A long time member of St. Mary’s Church, she volunteered for many activities.

She was an excellent seamstress and tailor, often using her creativity to design and make clothes for her 5 children, John, Janice, Julie, Joel and Jerri.

She also tailored a custom tuxedo for Orville for their many events at Elks Lodge.

After Orville’s retirement, Dorothy and Orville spent many years enjoying traveling throughout the United States, visiting family.

They also had a winter home in Yuma, AZ, where she tutored children and crocheted afghans to donate to children in hospitals.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Orville Altmaier and daughter Janice Frazier.

Survivors include, John Altmaier of Peoria AZ; Julie and Paul Cantor of Seattle, WA; Joel and Sherry Altmaier of Newman Lake, WA; and Jerri and John Widman of Rosalia, WA; 12 grandchildren Benjamin Altmaier, Heidi Elliott, Jennifer Moore, Julie Hackett, Sarah and Alison Cantor, Chris Altmaier, Kelly Wright, Katie Altmaier, Randy, Travis and Ashley Widman; great-grandchildren, Connor Altmaier, Beckett Altmaier, Kellan Altmaier, Alec Widman, Colin Moore, Emily Elliott and Arianna Wright.
