Obituary: Farmer, George Edward

Age 81

FARMER, George Edward Passed away on January 8, 2013 at home in Spokane, WA with his family by his side.

He was born in Spokane on December 26, 1931 to John and Alice Farmer.

George graduated from Otis Orchards High School and joined the U.S. Marine Corps at age 21.

George served on the USS Oriskany in the Korean Conflict and married Elizabeth Poitras in 1953.

A graduate of Northrup Institute of Technology in Aeronautical Engineering, he worked for Hiller Helicopters, Lockheed Martin, and Boeing before entering public service with the Washington State Department of Ecology Water Resources program, retiring in 1994.

George is survived by his wife Betty; and children CJ Farmer (Anna), Sandy Westermen (Lorin), Renee Reistad (Kenneth) and Brian Farmer (Becky); nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

George is also survived by a brother Donald Framer and sister Betty Jane Somers, both of Spokane.

George enjoyed playing golf, working his garden and always rooting for the underdog.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 505 West St. Thomas More Way.

The burial will take place on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at 2:15 p.m. at the Washington State Veteran’s Cemetery, 21702 West Espanola Rd.
