Obituary: Mclaughlin, Thomas G

MCLAUGHLIN, Thomas G Passed away January 10, 2013 due to complications of a short illness.

He was born in Worland, WY and moved to St. Paul, MN as a toddler.

At age 5, he moved to Spokane and attended St. Aloysius grade school.

He attended Rogers HS, Gonzaga Prep and Gonzaga University for two years.

He joined the Army during WWII serving in the Pacific at Guadalcanal.

He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Combat Infantry, American Defense and Good Conduct medals.

He was also awarded a bronze star.

Tom retired from the US Post Office in 1978 after over 30 years of government services.

During retirement he became quite a gardener and was well known for his tomatoes and other crops.

Tom was an avid reader and had a large library with quite a few first editions.

He was preceded in death by his son, Gary in 1996.

He is survived by his wife Helen at the home, sons Ron McLaughlin of Bonners Ferry, ID, John McLaughlin of Chattaroy, WA, daughters Sue Phares and Lorrie McLaughlin of Spokane, granddaughter Kassie Wilponen of Lewiston, ID, 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

A Vigil service will be held on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at 7 p.m. at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 3624 W. Indian Trail Rd., Spokane, WA 99208.

The Mass will be on Friday, January 18, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and Inurnment will be after the service at Holy Cross Cemetery, 7200 N. Wall.

A reception will held immediately following the service a Cedar Springs Apartments reception hall, 8424 N. Nevada.
