MICKELSON, Lowell K. “Luke” March 2, 1925 - January 7, 2013 Lowell passed away peacefully at his home in Spokane Valley at the age of 87. Son of Berger and Esther (Faaberg) Mickelson, his early years were spent on the family farm in Frazee, MN, his place of birth. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in Menahga, MN. At age 18, Lowell enlisted in the Navy and served during WWII in the Admiralty Islands. In 1948 he married Delores “Dee” (Rinas) Mickelson. Soon after, they drove to Washington with their wedding gifts loaded in a ‘41 Ford and began their 64-year life together in Spokane. In 1952 Lowell was one of the founding partners of Modern Drywall, and he relished the friends he made during his time in business. His little black book of contacts and a handshake with a smile in the beginning served him well. Lowell enjoyed fishing, golf, and crossword puzzles. He was the consummate sports fan, rarely missing a Mariners game. He and Delores spent 15 winters in Arizona, and enjoyed many summers at Sun-Up Bay, Lake Coeur d’Alene ID. They were members of Gethsemane Lutheran Church. Lowell was a very kind and loving person. Family meant everything to him and he will be greatly missed and cherished. Those preceding Lowell in death include his parents and seven brothers: Byrdell, Melford, Russell, Willard, Marvin, Lloyd, and Lawrence as an infant. He is survived by his wife, Delores Mickelson, two sons, Ron (Rita) Mickelson, Jim (Robin) Mickelson, and one daughter, Teresa (Kevin) Leuschel, all of Spokane. Nine grandchildren, Bradley Mickelson, Jessica (Greg) Connolly; Jennifer, Jonathan, Jill, and Joel Mickelson; Melissa, Renata, and Brandon Leuschel. Great-grandchildren Tommy Mickelson; Penelope and Josephine Connolly. Lowell is also survived by sisters Mavis Torvinen of Menahga, MN; Elaine (Jim) Anderson and Margaret (Wayne) Maki, both of Frazee, MN. Numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 11315 E. Broadway Ave., Spokane Valley, WA 99206. Private burial, Washington State Veterans Cemetery, Medical Lake. A gift in memory of Lowell may be made to Gethsemane Lutheran Church or Hospice of Spokane.
