Punishment redundant

It was a Charles Dickens character who said “the law is an ass.” Now, I read that the monster Joseph Duncan has been sentenced to nine life sentences and three executions. He must be some tough guy.

I am interested in learning how the prison system intends to carry out all of these. Do they do the executions, all three of them, first and then sentence him to the first of this nine life sentences? Or do they propose somehow to interweave them, i.e., have an execution, then a life sentence, then another execution, etc.

I guess this is another example of our tax dollars at work.
