The death apparently stemmed from an argument. The victim’s name was not released. An autopsy was expected on Monday to determine cause of death and the identity of the male victim, said Sheriff’s detective Lt. Steve Barbieri.
The 4 a.m. incident occurred in the 4000 block of Garfield Road, which is north of Airway Heights.
Deputies were still at the scene gathering evidence at 5 p.m.
Sean Deitschman, a neighbor, said that Cavazos was living a quiet life and caring for two grandchildren. He would be out in the yard playing with them at times.
“I have no problem with him at all,” Deitschman said. “Nice guy. Nice family.
Barbieri said two children in their teen years were away for the night and not at the home when the shooting occurred.
Barbieri said detectives believe the shooting stemmed from a domestic incident, and that the victim may be a relative of Cavazos. The cause of the violence is under investigation, he said.
