Woman reports attack in Progress Elementary parking lot

A woman says she was assaulted in the parking lot at Progress Elementary today after dropping her niece off at school. The woman, whose name was not released, said she had walked back to her car after escorting the child into the school and opened her car door. She was “struck in the back of her neck with an unknown object,” according to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, which is investigating the incident. The woman said she was knocked to the ground and saw someone take her cell phone and purse out of the car and run south on Progress Road. The elementary school is located at Progress and Broadway Avenue. The woman said she thought the person was a white man in his late twenties wearing a dark jacket, jeans and a baseball cap, according to a news release. She was treated at the scene. Deputies and a sheriff’s K-9 unit responded to the 911 call, but did not locate the attacker. Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for information; call 1-800-222-TIPS or visit www.crimestoppersinlandnorthwest.org. Tipsters may remain anonymous.
