Fire breaks out in empty Spokane Valley home

Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of a house fire that started in Spokane Valley this morning. Crews responded to the fire about 7 a.m. after someone driving by the home called 911 to report smoke and flames coming from the home, said Spokane Valley Fire Department spokesman Bill Clifford. The previous tenants moved out of the small single-story wood frame home at Broadway Avenue and North Marguerite Road about a month ago and it was empty when the fire started, but the homeowner had been there yesterday doing repairs, Clifford said. Nobody was injured in the blaze, which fire crews knocked down in about 15 minutes. Investigators are looking into what caused the fire, where the fire originated and the extent of the damage. Neighbors told fire crews they believe it was a drug house when the former tenants were there due to the high traffic in and out.
