He graduated from North Central High School and upon graduation enlisted in the US Army Air Corps during WW II, ultimately becoming a flight officer of B-25 aircraft.
Following his honorable discharge, Ken returned to Spokane with his bride Joanne Thompson Jones.
He attended Gonzaga University for one year then completing his degree from Eastern Washington University.
Ken began his career working for the American Red Cross followed by many years at Potlatch Forest Products in Lewiston, ID.
In 1964 he followed his lifelong desire to work full time for the Boy Scouts of America with assignments in Eugene, Portland, Albany and Salem, Oregon.
While in Albany, Ken married Barbara Miller of Beaverton, OR on December 18, 1971.
They were transferred to Salem, on 1974.
In 1977 Ken began working for the State of Oregon for which he worked in several agencies until his retirement in 1989 as the Manager of the State and Federal Surplus Property department.
Ken was a lifelong member of the Boy Scouts of America and was a 26-year member of the Salem SenateAires Barbershop Chorus, for which he served as president for two terms and was active in the Grandfather and the Four of a Kind Quartets.
On his 80th birthday, Ken was inducted into the Evergreen District Barbershop Hall of Fame.
He later participated in the Breeze Chorus.
Barbara and Ken loved to dance and were longtime members of the Willamette Valley Jazz society.
They owned several travel trailers and spent many happy years seeing the West.
Ken was a board member of the Town House Meals on Wheels and spent many hours volunteering for them.
Ken is survived by his wife Barbara; his sister Barbara Blackburn of Spokane; his son Brian Jones of Arkansas; daughter Shauna Jones (Chris) of Melbourne, Australia; stepchildren Robert Miller of California, Kathleen Firestein (Charles) of Arizona and Eric Miller (Carolyn) of West Linn; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Ken was preceded in death by his son Kevin Jones and stepdaughter Susan Brock.
The family would like to give special thanks to the wonderful staff of Marian Estates, Ponderosa unit, for the loving care he received during the past two years.
Services will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 21 at VIRGIL T. GOLDEN FUNERAL SERVICE, 605 COMMERCIAL ST.
