Three injured in early morning fire in Spokane

Three people were hospitalized this morning after a fire in southeast Spokane.

The Spokane Fire Department responded to the fire at 1:46 a.m., said Battalion Chief Dave Haworth. First crews on the scene reported smoke coming from a single-story residence located near Fourth Avenue and Magnolia Street with three injured occupants outside.

An ambulance arrived and began to care for the injured victims while fire crews searched for other victims inside. No other occupants were found.

The Spokane Police Department responded to assist, cordoning off the area and providing crowd control, Haworth said.

The three unidentified victims were transported to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center, but their conditions are unknown at this time.

Thirty firefighters responded to the fire, which caused an estimated $25,000 in damage.

Damage was confined to the rear bedroom, with heavy smoke damage throughout the rest of the residence.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
