Guilds’ School fundraiser brings in twice the goal
SPOKANE – The Spokane Guilds’ School and Neuromuscular Center just completed its 35th anniversary challenge fundraiser, doubling the $21,000 fundraising goal and raising more than $42,000.
The Guilds’ School must raise one-third of its $3.1 million annual budget from special events and fundraisers, as well as community donations.
Guilds’ School Foundation board member Houston Scrudder and his wife, Arlene, challenged colleagues and the community to match their own $3,500 donation in honor of executive director Dick Boysen’s 35th anniversary at the school.
“In today’s challenging economic environment our supporters’ generosity reflects the love and respect they have for Dick Boysen and his 35 years of serving the children and families of our community,” said Guilds’ School board president Tim Cassels.
Ignite! seeks original community plays
SPOKANE – Ignite! Community Theatre has announced its second Spokane Playwrights’ Booklight Showcase, asking playwrights living within a 75-mile radius of Spokane to submit their original work to be considered for presentation in a Booklight Readers’ Theater format.
Plays must be unpublished (prior performance is OK); performance time must be 20 minutes or less; plays may cover any subject matter, preferably family-friendly and be suitable for Readers’ Theater Format (no costumes, props, sets, lights etc.) Submissions are free. Send a digital copy of the play to ignitetheatre@comcast.net. PDF format is preferred; please omit author identification from the body of the play. Download submission form at www.ignitetheatre.org and submit everything before Feb. 28. Plays will be selected by April 1 and performed on May 17, 18 and 19 at Ignite! Junior wrestling plans registration night Jan. 22
SPOKANE COUNTY – It’s almost wrestling season for children interested in hitting the mats. Area high schools are hosting registration night Jan. 22 for a monthlong wrestling program for children ages 5 through 12 sponsored by Spokane Junior Wrestling.
Children will practice twice a week leading up to four March tournaments. The $50 course fee that includes T-shirts, medals, awards, insurance and tournament fees.
Additional payments of $20 to $30 for tournament uniforms are required.
Parents can register wrestlers at the nearest participating high schools: Central Valley, East Valley, Ferris, Gonzaga Prep, Lewis and Clark, Mt. Spokane, Rogers, Shadle Park, University and West Valley.
