In brief: James youngest player to reach 20,000 points
NBA: LeBron James became the youngest player in NBA history to score 20,000 points and also surpassed 5,000 assists on a milestone night Wednesday, leading the visiting Miami Heat to a 92-75 victory over the undermanned Golden State Warriors.
He finished with 25 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds.
Golden State guard Stephen Curry, who sprained his twice surgically repaired right ankle during Golden State’s morning practice, didn’t play.
Coach Mark Jackson said he doesn’t expect Curry to be out long.
• Hawks cool off Nets: Jeff Teague had a career-high 28 points and 11 assists, Zaza Pachulia finished two assists shy of a triple-double and the short-handed Atlanta Hawks beat visiting Brooklyn 109-95 to stop the Nets’ seven-game winning streak.
The Hawks played without leading scorer Josh Smith, suspended for one game and fined an undisclosed amount for “conduct detrimental to the team” following an incident in practice Tuesday.
Terps upset N.C. State on last-second shot
College men: Alex Len dropped in a missed shot by teammate Pe’Shon Howard with 0.9 seconds left, giving Maryland (14-3, 2-2 ACC) a stunning 51-50 victory over No. 14 North Carolina State (14-3, 3-1) at College Park, Md.
• UNLV knocks off No. 15 Aztecs: Anthony Marshall scored a season-high 20 points, and Justin Hawkins and Khem Birch scored off rebounds on consecutive possessions in the final 1:18 to help visiting UNLV (15-3, 1-2 Mountain West) upset No. 15 San Diego State (14-3, 2-1) 82-75.
• No. 13 Butler rolls: Andrew Smith scored 15 points, Kellen Dunham added 11 and No. 13 Butler used a stifling defense to pull away from Richmond (11-7, 1-2 Atlantic 10) for a 62-47 victory at Indianapolis.
Butler (15-2, 3-0), which has won 12 straight overall, hosts eight-ranked Gonzaga (16-1) on Saturday.
Serena Williams moves to third round

Williams has moved into the third round of the Australian Open with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Garbine Muguruza of Spain.
Wozniacki also advanced into the third round with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Garbine Muguruza of Spain.
Murray, the U.S. Open champion, had another easy win, a 6-2, 6-2, 6-4 victory over Joao Sousa of Portugal.
