Liberty Lake Police: Man admits scratching car in parking lot

The Liberty Lake Police Department responded to a little bit of everything the week of Jan. 7-14, including domestic violence and theft calls.

A woman called police at 6:15 p.m. on Jan. 8 to report that a man had keyed her car in the Albertsons parking lot. The man was located and reportedly admitted keying the car because the woman had cut him off in traffic, said Police Chief Brian Asmus. The woman declined to press charges as long as the man paid for repairs, Asmus said.

Police responded to the 1600 block of North Cirque Lane at 3 p.m. on Jan. 9 on a report of a fight. An investigation determined that a woman pushed her mother, causing her to fall down, and then punched a bathroom door, Asmus said. The 29-year-old woman was arrested on charges of domestic violence assault and malicious mischief-domestic violence.

Employees at Freedom RV in the 19600 block of East Cataldo Avenue called police on Jan. 9 to report a missing television. The television was received on Jan. 5 and was gone by Jan. 7. Employees told officers that another television had gone missing sometime around Dec. 1, Asmus said.

Emergency dispatchers received a 911 call from an out-of-state cellphone number at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. A female said something about domestic violence and then the phone was disconnected, Asmus said. There was no answer when dispatchers called back. The call was traced to the area of Country Vista Drive and Henry Road. Officers checked the area, which includes an apartment complex, and were unable to find anyone in need of assistance, Asmus said.

A woman in the 22800 block of Country Vista Drive called police at noon Saturday to report that her 13-year-old son had bitten and scratched her. The teen was booked into the Juvenile Detention Center on a charge of domestic violence assault, Asmus said. The same teen was arrested on similar charges last week and is also on probation for a previous domestic violence incident.

An officer stopped a car at Liberty Lake Road and County Vista Drive at 2:50 a.m. Sunday for an equipment violation. A 16-year-old boy was behind the wheel and the officer could smell alcohol, Asmus said. The teen denied drinking and said he was a designated driver, Asmus said. There were two passengers in the car.

The teen had an intermediate license that prohibits passengers and driving between the hours of 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. It was also determined that the driver was under the influence, Asmus said. The driver was cited for minor operating a vehicle after alcohol consumption and released to a parent.

During the week officers also made two arrests for driving with a suspended license. They handed out two citations for speeding. Additional citations were given for license and plates required, failure to show proof of liability insurance, operating a vehicle with defective equipment, failure to obey a traffic control device, following too close, failure to stop at a stop sign and use of a cellphone.
