Obituary: Ackerman, Lila Maxine (Allgaier)
Age 89
She was born August 29, 1923, near Hillyard, WA to Leonard (Gerhke) Allgaier and Lyda (Sanger) Allgaier.
Growing-up years were spent in various locations of Eastern Washington; she graduated from Springdale High School in 1941.
Lila married Condit William (Willis) Ackerman on September 5, 1941; they were wed for 59 years until his death in 2000.
Their first home was in Port Townsend, WA, where Condit was serving in the army at Fort Warden.
Their first two children were Charlie (1943) and Lawana (1944).
Lila devoted her life to being the best wife, mother, friend and homemaker, grandmother and great-grandmother that she could be.
Her grandkids and “greats” would truly become the light of her eyes!
The family remained in Port Townsend a few years after the Army, then spent two-three years back in Springdale, and finally moved on to the Spokane Valley in 1952.
In 1955 their second son, Dale, was born.
Condit worked at Kaiser Aluminum, where he remained until his retirement.
Lila’s interests included helping with Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts; participating in local Volksmarches with daughter-in-law, Barbara; all nature and wildlife; she was a talented artist and an avid reader, knitter and puzzler.
She also enjoyed many special travels with daughter and son-in-law.
She spent 23 years as a top Avon Representative, and enjoyed the added benefit of forming many fine friendships.
Lila had an uncanny ability to touch people in a positive way through her ready smile and warm manner, and she will be missed but never forgotten.
Lila was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Condit; brothers, Dwight and Joe; and sister, Lorraine MacPherson.
Survivors include her two sons in Spokane and daughter in Wenatchee; brother, Lester Allgaier (Kennewick) and sister, Bessie Mowatt (Portland); seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren, and many extended family members.
A memorial service is set for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2013, at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home, 1400 South Pines Rd; Spokane Valley, WA; (509) 924-2211, with a reception immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the American Heart Association or Hospice.
