Area women: Palmer, Bulldogs turn it up late, top Toreros
Junior Haiden Palmer scored 16 of her game-high 22 points in the second half as Gonzaga overcame a slow start and beat San Diego 62-50 in a West Coast Conference women’s basketball game Saturday at Jenny Craig Pavilion in San Diego.
The Bulldogs (15-5, 5-1) got it going offensively in the second half after shooting just 29.4 percent in the first half.
Taelor Karr added 10 points for Gonzaga, which forced 23 Toreros turnovers. Amy Kame had 15 points for San Diego (11-7, 3-3).

Eastern Washington 63, Northern Colorado 38: Redshirt freshman Hayley Hodgins made all seven of her shot attempts and finished with a career-high 17 points and the Eagles snapped a four-game losing streak against the Bears with a Big Sky Conference win at Reese Court in Cheney.
Laura Hughes and Lexie Nelson added 11 points apiece for the Eagles (9-8, 5-3), who completely dominated Northern Colorado (7-9, 4-3) in the first half.
Whitworth 69, Linfield 64: Kayla Johnson scored 19 points and Emily Guthrie hit five 3-pointers and added 15 points as the Pirates (12-5, 5-3) avoided the upset with a Northwest Conference win over the Wildcats (1-12, 0-7) in Spokane.
K.C. McConnell added 13 points for Whitworth.
Idaho 70, Texas-Arlington 52: Alyssa Charlston made 10 of 15 shots and finished with 20 points as the Vandals (7-11, 4-3) built a comfortable first-half lead and cruised past Texas-Arlington (3-14, 1-6) in a Western Athletic Conference game in Moscow, Idaho.
CC Spokane 66, Blue Mountain 54: Rylie Holsinger led three players in double digits with 14 points and added eight rebounds and the Sasquatch (11-6, 4-1) beat the Timberwolves (7-10, 2-3) at Spokane Falls Community College.
Breeana Wilson had 12 points and Jorden Brons added 10 for CCS.
North Idaho 87, Colorado Northwestern 53: Georgia Stirton scored 14 points and Hannah Love added 13 as the Cardinals (21-1, 6-1) dominated in the second half and eased past the Spartans (12-10, 1-6) in a Scenic West Athletic Conference contest in Coeur d’Alene.
Katie Buskey added 11 points for NIC, which outscored Colorado Northwestern 46-20 in the second half.
