Locally: Pfeffer preseason All-American pick

Tyler Pfeffer, Whitworth’s junior outfielder from Shadle Park, has been named a preseason first-team All-American by D3baseball.com. 

Pfeffer, who hit .379 with 12 home runs and 61 RBIs last spring, was a first-team D3baseball.com All-American and a second-team All-America selection by the American Baseball Coaches Association.

Dan Scheibe, Whitworth’s sophomore pitcher from Hanford, is an honorable-mention selection on the D3baseball.com preseason All-America team. He had a 7-3 record, 2.66 ERA and 95 strikeouts in 88 innings as a freshman.

College scene

Jason Nokes, a Western Wahington senior from Mt. Spokane, was a member of the Vikings’ 4x400 relay team that set a school record of 3 minutes, 20.26 seconds in finishing second to Stanford in the Husky Preview indoor track meet last weekend in Seattle.

Riley Stockton, a Seattle Pacific sophomore guard from Ferris, ranks third nationally among NCAA Division II men’s basketball players in assist-to-turnover ratio with 3.50.

Soccer

Taylor Lang, an All-Greater Spokane League goalkeeper from University, has committed to play at Central Washington.

The 5-foot-6 Lang, who has a 3.1 grade-point average, has played club soccer at the Premier One level for six years, played two years in the state Olympic development program and played for the Spokane Spiders semipro team.
