Unruh guides N. Colorado past EWU 72-56

GREELEY, Colo. – Freshman Venky Jois tied the Eastern Washington record with seven blocked shots but the Eagles still couldn’t overcome Northern Colorado, which defeated the Eagles 72-56 in a Big Sky Conference men’s basketball game on Saturday night.

Jois also led the Eagles (4-14, 2-6) with 15 points and eight rebounds. Collin Chiverton added 13 points for Eastern Washington and Parker Kelly had 11. Jois equaled the blocks record set earlier this season by teammate Martin Seiferth.

The Eagles again played stingy defense, holding the Bears to 38 percent shooting – the seventh straight game the Eagles have held their opponents to 44 percent shooting or less.

But after trailing by just three at halftime by a 33-30 score, the Eagles allowed UNC to go on a 13-3 run in the second half to open a double-digit lead it held much of the rest of the game.

Northern Colorado finished with a 47-29 rebounding advantage.
