SCRAPS looking for tips in dog neglect case

This dog was found near Bridges Road in Deer Park with injuries to its neck from a collar or cable. Anyone with information is asked to call SCRAPS at (509) 477-2532. (SCRAPS)
Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service is looking for the owner of an injured one-year-old, male husky-mix dog which was found near Bridges Road in Deer Park Friday. The dog was taken to the Pet Emergency Clinic in Spokane, where veterinarians found a collar or cable had been wrapped around the dog’s neck such that it had become embedded, indicating it had been there for a very long time. “Typically, a collar or chain is placed on a dog when they are a puppy and still growing,” said SCRAPS Animal Protection Operations Manager Nicole Montano, who has seen this type of injury before. The dog is receiving medical care at SCRAPS. Montano said this type of neglect may amount to second-degree animal cruelty, a gross misdemeanor, which can be punishable by up to 365 days in jail and or a $5,000 fine. Anyone with information about the dog or its owner is asked to call SCRAPS at (509) 477-2532.
