TV Notes: ‘30 Rock’ bids farewell with one-hour finale

Chuck Barney Mcclatchy-Tribune

Don’t miss

THE “30 ROCK” FINALE: Sad, but true, it’s time to say goodbye to one of television’s top sitcoms. After earning 14 Emmys, six Golden Globes and plenty of critical praise during their seven-season run, Liz (Tina Fey), Jack (Alec Baldwin) and company are calling it a wrap with a one-hour send-off. Thanks to the entire “TGS” gang for all the offbeat, wildly absurd memories. 8 p.m. Thursday, NBC.

Other bets

Tonight: Because there just aren’t enough honors to go around in Hollywood, we’ve got the “19th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards.” It’s yet another chance to watch TV and movie stars dress up and say really nice things about each other. 5 p.m., TNT and TBS.

tonight: “Monster Squid: The Giant Is Real” basically says it all about this special that captures the mysterious sea beast on film in its natural habitat. No calamari jokes, please. 8 p.m., Discovery Channel.

tonight: Remember T.R. Knight and the messy exit he made from “Grey’s Anatomy”? Well, he returns to TV tonight in “The Good Wife,” starting a multi-episode guest stint as a political consultant. 9 p.m., CBS.

MONDAY: The great Larry Hagman may have left us last year, but his character is still alive in the first few episodes of “Dallas.” The soapy revival launches its second season tonight. 9 p.m., TNT.

TUESDAY: Break out the Lycra tights and fancy capes. The “Pioneers of Television” series turns the spotlight on prime-time superheroes tonight, including Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. 7 p.m. KSPS; 8 p.m., KCDT.

WEDNESDAY: “Super Bowl’s Greatest Commercials 2013” is a celebration of the goofy – and sometimes touching – ads that keep us entertained even when the big game turns into a boring blowout. Boomer Esiason and Aisha Tyler are our hosts. 8 p.m., CBS.

WEDNESDAY: Keri Russell (“Felicity”) returns to prime time in “The Americans.” It’s an intriguing, tension-filled 1980s-era drama about a pair of Soviet spies (Russell and Matthew Rhys) posing as a married couple in the Washington, D.C., suburbs. 10 p.m., FX.

THURSDAY: In the new drama series. “Do No Harm,” Steven Pasquale stars as a highly successful neurosurgeon who struggles to keep a lid on his devious and dangerous alternative personality. 10:01 p.m., NBC.

FRIDAY: “The 44th NAACP Image Awards” salutes outstanding achievements by people of color in entertainment and literature. Top nominees include the TV remake of “Steel Magnolias,” which is up for seven awards. 8 p.m., NBC.

SATURDAY: Host Alec Baldwin is joined in New Orleans by celebrities and football stars for “NFL Honors.” It’s a pre-Super Bowl celebration of the season’s top performers, including the league MVP. 9 p.m., CBS.
