Obituary: Hansen, Dorie
Age 94
As she took her last breath in this life she was ushered into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, where we know she is dancing before the King.
Dorie’s given name was Esther Dorie Hertel, born to Gustav and Meta Hertel on April 29, 1918, in Edwall, WA.
Dorie lived on a wheat ranch until she was ten years old, where she helped prepare meals for the ranch hands with her sister.
Shortly after moving from the farm to town her father died, leaving Dorie and one of her sisters on their own.
Later she worked for room and board for various farmers in Edwall, Davenport, and Spokane, WA.
She married Lewis Coleman in 1937; they had four children: Fred, Vergie, Earl, and Karol.
Later she raised her children alone and worked in restaurants in Coulee City before moving to Spokane.
Dorie met and married Robert (Bob) Hansen in 1963.
After a few years they moved from Spokane out to Long Lake where they lived for 29 years.
Those years were busy with helping Bob raise two of his three children, cutting wood, gardening, dancing and summer vacations.
After Bob retired they took their motorhome on many road trips and eventually settled in the warmth of Yuma.
Dorie loved to dance.
She and Bob danced thousands of miles with him singing in her ear as they danced.
She played the piano by ear, teaching herself to play by watching her older sister’s lessons and practicing what she heard.
She was a great cook and family and friends loved to come to the lake for picnics in the summer.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Robert Hansen; sons Fred Coleman (Zona Robertson) and Karol Coleman (Ann) of Spokane WA; step-children Teresa (Hansen) Lahti (Roger) of Kennewick WA, Sylvia Hansen (Dean Hicks) of Pasco WA, Larry Hansen (Kay) Boise ID; grandchildren Christie, Kelly, Robin, Todd, Mark, Ty, Lorie, Rebecca, Damon, Tiffany, Aleshia, numerous great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Dorie is preceded in death by her parents Gustav and Meta Hertel, all her siblings, son Earl Coleman in 1969, and beloved daughter Vergie in 1990.
A Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at Heritage Funeral Home.
