Whits have close call

Dustin McConnell led four players in double figures with 17 points and the fourth-ranked Whitworth Pirates held off the stubborn Pacific Lutheran Lutes 71-68 in Parkland, Wash., to remain unbeaten in Northwest Conference basketball.

Wade Gebbers added 14 points, while Taylor Farnsworth and George Valle scored 13 apiece for the Pirates (18-1, 10-0).

Cameron Schilling had 25 points for PLU (5-14, 3-7).

North Idaho 87, Salt Lake 78: Jalil Abdul-Bassit poured in a game-high 26 points, shooting 4 of 6 from 3-point range, and Keon Lewis hit all eight of his free throws and finished with 21 points to propel the Cardinals to a win over the Bruins in Scenic West Athletic Conference play in Coeur d’Alene.

With the victory, the Cardinals (21-3, 8-1) moved into first place, one-half game ahead of the Bruins (19-3, 7-1).

Mikey Hope came off the bench to score 17 and James Webb had a game-high eight rebounds for NIC.

Sai Tummala scored 20 to pace Salt Lake.

CC Spokane 103, Columbia Basin 82: Kwinn Hanson scored a game-high 28 points on 12-of-16 shooting and hauled in a game-high 12 rebounds to power the Sasquatch (14-6, 5-2) to a 103-82 victory over the visiting Hawks (1-16, 0-7) in NWAACC action.

Brady Bagby added 27 points and eight boards for CCS, while Eric Holbrook chipped in with 19 points and five assists.
