Police probing dismemberment homicide

Spokane police arrested a 19-year-old man this morning for allegedly shooting his friend in the head by accident then trying to chop the body up with a hatchet. Jeremy McVicker was booked into Spokane County Jail this morning on suspicion of first-degree manslaughter. Killed in the bizarre encounter was Dylan J. Heinen, 19, according to the Spokane County Medical Examiner. A man called Spokane police this morning and said he had watched a friend shoot another friend in the head just before 5 a.m. today, according to Officer Jennifer DeRuwe. When officers arrived, a male answered the door at 4818 N. Lincoln Street, and officers saw blood on his feet, DeRuwe said. Upon searching the home, officers discovered the male victim, who had “died from obvious trauma.” McVicker accidentally shot the victim, then attempted to dismember the victim’s body with a hatchet in order to conceal the crime, she said. Detectives also interviewed male and female witnesses, who have since been released. Lincoln Street between Wellesley and Wabash avenues was closed for several hours during the investigation.
