Chewelah defeats Cardinals

Brandon Smith scored 20 points and Derek Smith added 17 points, 10 rebounds and six steals as the Chewelah Cougars shook off a sluggish start and beat second-place Medical Lake 57-38 in a Northeast A League game Tuesday night at Chewelah.

Deylin Peone added 12 points for the Cougars (16-3, 11-0), who outscored the Cardinals 21-8 in the second quarter after trailing by three at the end of the first.

Jaelon Smith and Austin Garza scored nine points each for Medical Lake (13-7, 9-3) in the Cardinals’ regular-season finale.

Kettle Falls 54, Riverside 46: Nathan Disque scored 16 points and Luke Beardslee added 12 – with 10 coming on free throws – as the Bulldogs (8-11, 2-9) beat the visiting Rams (5-13, 3-8). Dallas Shuler and Andrew Kramer scored 12 points apiece for Riverside.

Lakeside 65, Freeman 40: Conner Moffatt scored 21 points and added eight rebounds and seven assists as the Eagles (9-10, 8-3) built a comfortable first-half lead and eased past the host Scotties (3-16, 3-8). Coleton Collins added 18 points for Lakeside, which led 36-18 at halftime. Freeman was led by Jack Paukert’s 12 points.

Inland Empire 5A

Lake City 43, Post Falls 25: Kyle Guice had 19 points and eight rebounds and Chuckie Adams chipped in 11 points to guide the Timberwolves (13-4, 5-0) past the visiting Trojans (7-10, 1-3). Justin Pratt dished out seven assists for Lake City, which led 24-13 at the half.

Lewiston 54, Coeur d’Alene 47: Sam Heitzman scored 18 points and Rafa Hewett-Steiger added 10 as the Bengals (4-13, 1-3) upset the visiting Vikings (10-7, 2-3). Colby Daniels led Coeur d’Alene with 19 points.

Inland Empire 4A

Moscow 50, Lakeland 47: Dane Randall scored 11 points as the Bears (10-4, 3-0) opened the game on a 14-0 run and held on late to beat the visiting Hawks (7-10, 1-2). Alex Opland, who tallied a game-high 14 points for Lakeland, missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer that would have tied it up.

Great Northern

Cheney 59, East Valley 48: Eric Igbinoba made all seven of his free throws and finished with 23 points in the Blackhawks’ win over the host Knights (8-10, 4-6). Theo Petropoulous added 10 points for Cheney (9-9, 5-5), which outscored East Valley 31-21 in the second half. J.T. Phelan had team highs of 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Knights.

West Valley 72, Colville 39: Jake Love had 14 points and nine rebounds and Tyler Stavnes and Brady Bergman added 10 points apiece as the Eagles (12-5, 5-4) eased past the visiting Indians (8-9, 4-5). Terryce Duke added eight points and six offensive rebounds for West Valley, which outscored Colville by 16 points in the first half.

Clarkston 65, Deer Park 43: Kage Sobotta scored 17 of his game-high 19 points in the first half and the Bantams (12-5, 6-3) beat the visiting Stags (4-14, 0-10). Travis Pierce tallied 11 points for Deer Park.

Northeast 1B North

Cusick 58, Selkirk 27: Derrick Bluff made six 3-pointers and finished with 23 points and six steals as the Panthers (18-2, 13-0) routed the visiting Rangers (13-5, 10-2). Alec Bluff added 19 points and nine rebounds for Cusick, which outscored Selkirk 19-9 in the first quarter.

Republic 73, Curlew 41: Aaron Fritts led four players in double figures with 18 points as the Tigers (9-9, 6-5) dominated from the get-go in a win over the host Cougars (6-11, 4-8). Saxon Brown scored 15 points for Republic.

Northeast 1B South

Odessa-Harrington 61, Almira/Coulee-Hartline 54: Stetson Sanford scored 16 points and Justin Hunt and Markus Smith added 12 apiece as the Titans (13-7, 7-3) beat the visiting Warriors (9-8, 5-4). Odessa-Harrington committed just five turnovers. Thunder Wellhausen scored 14 points and Dallas Isaak added 13 for ACH.

Wellpinit 69, Wilbur-Creston 40: Brodie Ford made 5 of 6 from beyond the arc and finished with 20 points, eight rebounds and five steals to guide the Redskins (15-5, 8-2) past the visiting Wildcats (9-11, 3-7). A.J. Kieffer added 14 points, seven rebounds and four blocks for Wellpinit.

Valley Christian 68, St. Michael’s 50: Bo Piersol scored 27 points and Nick Cox added 17 as the Panthers (11-8, 6-4) gained control in the second quarter and beat the host Warriors (1-18, 0-9). Gabe Duraza tallied a game-high 31 points for St. Michael’s.

Southeast 1B

LaCrosse-Washtucna/Kahlotus 64, St. John-Endicott 51: Jed Zimmer scored 22 points and Darcy Stamper added 18 points as the Tigercats (15-4, 11-4) beat the host Eagles (2-17, 2-13). Stamper made three 3-pointers and scored 11 points in the second quarter. Kaleb Simon and Dakota White combined for 35 points for St. John-Endicott.

Tekoa-Oakesdale 76, Rosalia 67: Max Mueller scored 40 points and pulled down 29 rebounds to guide the Nighthawks (3-15, 2-12) past the visiting Spartans (9-9, 7-7). Craig Nelson had 34 points for Rosalia.

Nonleague

Timberlake 65, St. Maries 62: The Tigers (13-2) made 20 of 25 free throws – including 13 of 14 in the fourth quarter – and beat the host Lumberjacks (10-5). Bryce Allen led four Timberlake players in double figures with 14 points. Austin Linnemeyer had 16 points and six assists for St. Maries.

Coeur d’Alene freshmen 47, Mullan 43: The Coeur d’Alene freshmen built an eight-point lead and held on late to beat the Tigers (1-11) in Coeur d’Alene. Tyler Henderson scored 18 points and T.J. Placencio added 15 for Mullan.
