Agreed The San Diego Padres and Freddy Garcia have agreed to a minor league contract that includes an invitation to spring training.

• Second baseman Daniel Murphy and the New York Mets have agreed to a one-year contract worth $2,925,000. The 27-year-old Murphy hit .291 with six homers and 65 RBIs last year.

• Reliever Chad Durbin and the Philadelphia Phillies have finalized a $1.1 million, one-year contract. Durbin gets an $850,000 salary this year under the agreement, and the Phillies have a $1.5 million option for 2014. The 34-year-old right-hander was 4-1 with a 3.10 ERA in a career-high 76 games for Atlanta last season.

• Pitcher Jhoulys Chacin and the Colorado Rockies avoided arbitration by finalizing a $6.5 million, two-year contract. The 25-year-old right-hander is coming off an injury-plagued season in which he missed more than three months with shoulder inflammation.

Promoted Stanford has promoted Mike Bloomgren to offensive coordinator after overseeing the offensive line and running game the past two seasons.

Transferred Stoke City says it has reached an agreement to acquire midfielder Brek Shea from FC Dallas. The Premier League club said on its website Tuesday that the 22-year-old was in England and underwent a medical exam necessary to finalize the deal.

Suspended Track and field’s governing body says Colombian Diego Palomeque has been suspended for two years after failing a drug test at the London Olympics.

• Swimming’s governing body says former world record-holder Li Zhesi of China is serving a two-year doping ban after testing positive for EPO. FINA says Li and her coach, who was not identified, have been banned for doping violations by the China Swimming Federation.

Playing The manager of Darren Clarke says the 2011 British Open champion will play as scheduled in India next week, despite being injured in a minor car accident. Clarke will be one of 24 players taking part in next week’s inaugural Pearl Golf Premier League.
