Obituary: Oaksford, Mathilda Maxine

Age 88

OAKSFORD, Mathilda Maxine (Age 89) Maxine Oaksford of Spokane, entered into Glory on Tuesday, January 22.

She was born November 28, 1924 in Canby, OR to Oscar and Erica Bolland, the third of six children.

She was a Willamette Valley farm girl until she studied music at Willamette University.

She married Homer (Oakie) Oaksford April 25, 1942 at Christ Lutheran Church, Aurora, OR.

They were married for 59 years and reared eight children.

Maxine, a military officer’s wife, traveled extensively around the world, including Japan and Germany.

Col. Oaksford’s second career with The US Treasury Department brought his family from Seattle to Spokane in 1963.

Maxine was active in her church as well as in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives and activities.

She loved singing and playing piano.

She was inordinately selfless, loving and giving to those who knew her.

She will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her children, Michael Oaksford, Spokane, WA, Linda (Norm) Oaksford-Lorenz, Spokane, WA, Richard (Janice) Oaksford, Seattle WA , William, deceased, (Liza) Oaksford, Cleveland, OH, Robert (Jean) Oaksford, Spokane, WA, Daniel (Marion) Oaksford, Phoenix, AZ, Mary (Karl) Oaksford, Spokane, WA, Laura (Rickie) Bagwell, Spokane, WA, eight loving grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a brother and a sister in Oregon.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2002, a son, Pastor William Oaksford, in 1990, one brother, two sisters and a granddaughter (Erika).

The funeral will take place Saturday, February 2nd at 2:00 p.m. at the Valley Hennessey Funeral Home on Pines.
