Obituary: Ward, Kathryn Adeline

WARD, Kathryn Adeline (Age 89) Entered into rest Thursday, January 24, 2013.

Kathryn was born in Oxford, Nebraska to Albert and Anna Johnson.

The family moved to the Spokane area in 1936 and farmed on the West Plains.

It was here she met her future husband Fred C. Ward, whose family owned and operated Ward’s Truck Gardens in Garden Springs.

She was 14 and he was 16.

They married two years later at 16 and 18.

In 1942 their first child, Alicia, was born.

Their second child, Charlene, was born in 1949 and their son, Fred Jr., was born in 1954.

Kathryn was a homemaker for twenty years until she went to work as a sales clerk at JJ Newberry’s and the Crescent Department Store.

She then accepted a position in the Radiology Dept.

at SHMC for twelve years before joining her husband at Fred Ward Trophy Company.

Her sales background was immeasurable as she worked and flourished at their second location, The Specialty Shop, located on Fairchild AFB.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband Fred (2003), brother Herman Halverson, brother Arnold Johnson, sister-in-law Vienna Johnson and brother-in-law Merle Preuss.

She is survived by her children Alicia Ward, Charlene Bunney (Gary) and Fred Ward; grandchildren Teresa Collins, Heather Carpenter (Shawn), Margaret Warren, Amoreena Burke (Jeff) and Jacob Lundstrom; great-grandchildren Lisa Pruitt (Leroy), Taylor Collins, Fletcher Sawyer and Aubrey Carpenter; great-great-grandchild “Little Man Pruitt” due in 10 days; sister Viola Preuss (age 95), brother Glen Johnson (age 93), sister-in-law Lois Johnson and several nieces and nephews.

Kathryn will have a graveside service Friday, February 1, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. at Riverside Memorial Park, Spokane, WA.
