Obituary: Haugen, Gust Leroy

Age 86

HAUGEN, Gust LeRoy (Age 86) Passed away on January 28, 2013 at the age of 86.

He died at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, WA from Alzheimer’s with complications due to pneumonia.

He was born in Virginia, MN on May 31, 1926.

After attending Roosevelt High School, he enlisted in the service.

During his 20 years in the military he served in the Navy, Air Force, and retired from the Army.

He attained and received his undergraduate degree in History from Walla Walla University.

Following his graduation he helped form and then coach the Walla Walla Warriors Hockey Team.

He was also active in USA Hockey serving as District Registrar for a number of years.

He is survived by his wife Vesta of 64 years, his children Linda Schultz, Mike Haugen, Susan Velasquez, Patrick Haugen, and their spouses along with nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren; and his sister Anna Mae Dlouhy.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gust’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, 910 W. 5th Ave, Suite 256, Spokane, WA 99204.

A memorial service with military honors will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 3:00pm at the Otis Orchards Seventh Day Adventist Church in Otis Orchards, WA.
