Obituary: Hennings, Pauline Louise (Pennell) “Polly”

Age 89

HENNINGS, Pauline Louise (Pennell) “Polly” (Age 89) Pauline was born December 28, 1923 to Claude and Anna (Duffy) Pennell in a farm home near Hay, Washington.

She attended McNeilly School when the family moved to Wilcox and upon a later move, graduated from Prescott High School in 1941.

Pauline attended Washington State College until 1943.

She worked at Falkenberg’s Jewelry Store in Walla Walla and later as an assistant teacher in Harlem, New York.

She then graduated from University of Washington in 1947.

Following graduation, Polly was hired as the Executive Director of the Columbia Basin Girl Scout Council.

She married John Hennings on January 9, 1954, Coeur d’Alene, ID and lived in the Carico Hills area of Adams County until her heart gave out at her home Saturday June 29, 2013.

Pauline taught Junior High at Ritzville School District from 1972 - 1982.

She was a member of PEO Ritzville Chapter AR; American Association of University Women.

Pauline was named Cattlewoman of the year by Adams County Cattlewomen, and 1980 Lady of the Year by Ritzville Beta Sigma Phi Chapter.

She was a charter member of Washington Ag Forestry program.

Survivors are: brother Lee (Carole) Pennell, Walla Walla, WA; brother-in-law Richard (Jake) Jacobson, Walla Walla; daughter Mary Lou Courchaine (Steve), Newman Lake, WA and son Ronald John Hennings (Ann), Sprague, WA.

Grandchildren: Jared (Rebecca) Taylor, Oklahoma City, OK; Sarah Courchaine, Chandler, AZ; Chase Courchaine, Houston, TX; Heather, Hugh and Heidi Hennings, Sprague WA.

Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews and life long friend, Dena Freese Roberts and her family, Bellevue, WA.

Sisters Marie (Pennell) Hart, Moses Lake, WA and Hazel (Pennell) Jacobson, Sunnyside, WA and brother Bobby Pennell were predeceased.

Husband John Hennings preceded her in death February 2, 2012.

Funeral arrangements are directed by Danekas Funeral Home and Services will be held July 9, 2013 at Emanuel Lutheran Church at 11:00 a.m.

The family suggests donations be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice.

Later, private interment is planned.
