Obituary: Maynard, Edna Mae (Puckett)
Age 88
She was born in Matewan, West Virginia, on August 13, 1924.
She was the fourth of six children born to Charles and Golda Puckett.
Growing up, she lived in Logan, West Virginia, where in high school, she met the love of her life, Marvin Maynard.
They married on June 22, 1946 when Marvin returned home to Logan after serving in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
Their first child, Phillip Marvin, was born in Logan where they lived until 1949.
Marv then decided to join the newly formed United States Air Force.
This took them on many wonderful assignments around the world.
Edna was a great Air Force wife supporting her husband’s career and keeping the family ‘grounded’ as they moved from base to base.
Their second child, Barbara Gayle, was born at Malstrom Air Force Base, Great Falls, Montana.
After 33 years as a military wife, she helped her husband build their dream home near Fairchild Air Force Base where she lived for the remainder of her life, even after the passing of her husband in 2009.
Edna courageously battled Multiple Sclerosis for nearly 50 years.
Her faith in God and the support of her husband and family kept her strong.
She approached her disease with uncommon courage and was always positive and happy.
She served as an inspiration to all who knew her.
Edna is survived by her son, Phillip Maynard (Sherry), Raymore, Missouri; daughter Gayle Van Matre (Mike), Medical Lake, Washington; three grandsons, Michael, Brett and Bryan and two granddaughters, Kelli and Kristi, four great-grandchildren, Reagan, Olivia, Blake and Charlotte; and her youngest sister, Thelma Lee, from Spencer, West Virginia.
She had many special friends who faithfully visited her, as she was not able to leave her home.
She also had incredible caregivers from Beneficial In-home Care and Gentiva Hospice.
We are so grateful to everyone who touched her life!
She was a wonderful wife, mother, Nana and Great-Nana.
A Funeral Service will be held 10AM, Friday, July 5, 2013 at Heritage Chapel followed by a Celebration of Life Reception at the family home in Medical Lake.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or Gentiva Hospice.
