In brief: Two men arrested in car bombing probe
Two suspects were arrested Friday in connection to a June 29 bombing of a car in north Spokane.
Robert Showers, 45, and Siaosilepelenise Tuaimalo, 31, are in custody after a search executed by a SWAT team went late into the night Friday evening.
On Friday, the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives executed a search warrant at a home on the 2100 block of East Lacrosse Avenue.
Neighbors saw six people being led from the house in handcuffs, but police would not confirm any arrests until just before midnight Friday.
An explosive device detonated under a car about 4:30 a.m. on June 29 on the 5800 block of North Monroe Street. There were no injuries, and damage was confined to the car.
Showers is charged with unlawful possession of explosives. Tuaimalo is charged with unlawful possession of firearms.
Two on motorcycle injured during collision
A Post Falls motorcyclist and his passenger were injured Saturday afternoon in a crash on Idaho state Highway 41 south of Spirit Lake.
Shortly before 1 p.m., Edward J. Yankey, 62, and passenger Robin L. Yankey, 60, were riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle northbound on Highway 41, according to the Idaho State Police.
Traffic slowed ahead of them as a car waited to turn left from that lane into a driveway. The motorcycle rear-ended a Buick LaCrosse driven by 79-year-old Burton H. Austin, of Spirit Lake, the ISP said.
The Yankeys were taken to Kootenai Medical Center, the ISP said. Austin was not injured.
The ISP said Edward Yankey was not wearing a helmet.
Crash injures 5 on Highway 53 in Rathdrum
Five people were injured in a crash Friday afternoon at Idaho state Highway 53 and Ramsey Road in Rathdrum.
Eric D. Prentice, 30, was southbound on Ramsey about 6:30 p.m. when he ran through a stop sign at Highway 53, according to the Idaho State Police. A Ford Focus driven eastbound on Highway 53 by Julianna J. Kamps, of Post Falls, crashed into Prentice’s Ford Explorer, the ISP said.
Prentice and his passengers, Michelle Prentice and two children, were injured and taken to Kootenai Medical Center. Kamps was also injured and transported to Kootenai Medical Center, the ISP said.
Prentice, of Almira, Wash., didn’t see the stop sign and traveled through the intersection at about 50 mph, the ISP said. He was cited for inattentive driving.
