He was born September 2, 1921 at Spokane, WA to Fredrick and Florence (Harris) Reed.
Alfred was raised at Chatcolet Lake in Benewah County, Idaho and attended schools in Plummer.
He served in the United States Army Air Corp from 1942 until February of 1946.
He was an airplane mechanic and worked on B-17’s during World War II.
Following his service, he returned to Idaho where he worked for the railroad as a section hand and draw bridge operator.
He retired from the railroad in May of 1984.
Alfred married Ermel E. Grant on May 9, 1959 at Plummer, ID, where the couple made their home from 1962 until 1991.
The Reed’s owned and operated a restaurant in Plummer for 10 years.They moved to Veradale, WA in 1991.
His wife Ermel died in December of 2002.
He continued to live in the Spokane Valley until moving to a care facility in 2012.
His hobbies included carpentry, and he enjoyed home building projects.
Survivors include his daughter, Jan Reed of Spokane, one step- daughter, Judy Russell of Rathdrum, ID; one sister, Betty Reed of Spokane, WA; a brother Don Reed of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and a cousin James Graham of Spokane, WA.
A graveside service will be held Friday, July 12, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at Goldenrod Cemetery in Tekoa, WA.
The United States Army will provide military honors.
Memorial gifts may be given to the charity of the donor’s choice.
