Auto, collectible swap meet this weekend

SPOKANE COUNTY – The Spokane Automotive and Collectible Swap Meet will be Friday through Sunday at the Spokane County Fair and Expo Center, 404 N. Havana St.

About 500 classic cars are expected at the meet, and more than 700 vendors with booths selling memorabilia, toys and spare parts will be there as well.

Mitch Silver Auction’s live car auction will be 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. The swap meet will run 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.

Admission is $5; on Sunday, two cans of food for Second Harvest Food Bank will get you in.

Reporter to speak on Elwha River Valley

DOWNTOWN – Seattle Times reporter Lynda Mapes will present a program on the restoration of the Elwha River Valley on the Olympic Peninsula on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Community Building, 35 W. Main Ave. Together with Seattle Times photographer Steve Ringman, Mapes has published a book on the restoration of the 45-mile stretch of river, including the removal of two dams. CCS seeking input as part of review

SPOKANE COUNTY – Community Colleges of Spokane is inviting public comments as part of the accreditation review of Spokane Falls Community College and Spokane Community College.

The colleges will undergo evaluation on Oct. 9-11 and Oct. 16-18.

MANITO PARK – The Friends of Manito has extended the ticket deadline for Sunday’s Picnic for the Pond at Manito Park to today at 6 p.m. The picnic will benefit the ongoing restoration of Mirror Pond – aka the duck pond – and it includes a barbecue dinner and silent auction.
