Volcanoes stroll past Indians

KEIZER, Ore. – Appropriately enough, the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes began their fourth inning Thursday night with a walk. The Volcanoes patched together a six-run fourth with the help of five walks and strolled past the Spokane Indians 9-1 in Northwest League play at Volcanoes Stadium. Two of the walks came with the bases loaded. S-K also scored on a passed ball, wild pitch and Tyler Horan’s two-run single to right field as the Indians used three pitchers in the inning. The Volcanoes (17-10) snapped a four-game losing streak and ended Spokane’s three-game winning streak. The Indians (15-12) had won nine of 10 games. The five-game series opened Wednesday with Spokane’s 4-3 win. S-K starter Andrew Leenhouts (4-0) allowed three hits and one earned run in five innings. Spokane’s Cam Schiller singled to right with two out in the fifth and scored on Evan Van Hoosier’s double to center. Van Hoosier hadn’t played since tweaking his back on June 22.
