Cougars have Newman Lake residents on alert

Associated Press
NEWMAN LAKE — The Spokane County sheriff’s office is warning residents of the Newman Lake area to watch for cougars. A TV station reports that neighbors have seen at least one cougar lurking near their yards and they suspect it has killed a dog. The Fish and Wildlife Department says it’s common to see cougars this time of year, especially when deer — their usual prey — are plentiful.
