Injured Dallas Mavericks rookie guard Shane Larkin broke his ankle and will likely be sidelined until training camp. The former Miami point guard, who was the 18th pick in last month’s draft, sustained the injury Friday in the last practice before the team flew to Las Vegas for summer league games.
Signed The Los Angeles Lakers signed free-agent center Chris Kaman after Dwight Howard’s departure for Houston. Kaman averaged 10.5 points and 5.6 rebounds while starting 52 of 66 games for Dallas last season. He averaged a career-low 20.7 minutes. His deal with the Lakers is reportedly for one year at $3.2 million.
• The Golden State Warriors confirmed the deal struck earlier this week with free agent Marreese Speights. The signing gives Golden State another versatile power forward off the bench whom they hope can fill the void left by Carl Landry, who left to sign with the Sacramento Kings last Saturday.
• The Minnesota Timberwolves finalized contracts for three small forwards: Chase Budinger, Corey Brewer and rookie Shabazz Muhammad.
• The Atlanta Hawks re-signed guard Kyle Korver to a four-year, $24 million deal, allowing the team to keep one of the league’s top 3-point shooters. Korver averaged 10.9 points and made 45.7 percent of his 3-point shots last season to rank second in the NBA.
Pleaded Suspended LSU running back Jeremy Hill pleaded guilty to simple battery in connection with a bar fight in April. Hill entered the plea in state district court in Baton Rouge, La. He will not have to go to jail for the fight, but his future remains in question. He faces the possible revocation of the probation he was granted following a January 2012 guilty plea to a misdemeanor stemming from his sexual relationship with a then-14-year-old girl at his high school.
Split Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova says she and coach Thomas Hogstedt have decided to “part ways” after nearly three years working together. On her personal website, Sharapova says Hogstedt will be unable to travel in the immediate future, and that they both agreed she should find another coach.

Retired Toronto FC defender Danny Califf is retiring as a player and will become a scout for the team. The 33-year-old Californian joined Toronto in December after playing for the Los Angeles Galaxy, San Jose, Philadelphia and Chivas USA in Major League Soccer.
