Obituary: Ashton, Sandi

ASHTON, Florence “Sandi” 1924 -2013 Sandi Ashton, a lifetime resident of Arizona who moved to Spokane in 2003, passed away on July 8, 2013.

Sandi was a prolific artist who painted and sold over 1000 paintings at the peak of her career.

She worked in all mediums and was a sculptor, quilter and ceramic artist as well.

Her work won many awards in Arizona art shows.

While living in Phoenix, she owned and ran Carl’s Gems and Minerals for 20 years.

Her business was the inspiration for Wonders of the World here in Spokane, which is owned by her daughter.

She wrote and published three books-a memoir of her childhood in the depression, a fairy tale for her grandchildren, and a book of poetry.

Sandi’s finest quality was her thoughtful kindness to all who knew her or touched her life.

Even when she had little, she knew how to give much.

Sandi is survived by her son, Patrick Ashton and daughter Pamela Barclay and their spouses and numerous beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Her family will cherish the memory of this dynamic woman.

No funeral will be held.

A memorial is planned for a later date.
